Beyond the stories told through many generations, we have found many ancient documents which tell that there’s a long tradition, and so experience, in making high quality wines.
The farm was led by Edoardo and Orsolina until 1999, when their son, Franco, started together with his family a new journey designed to combine tradition and innovation.
Currently the farm spreads over 35 hectares (86 acres) of land cultivated manly with vineyards and partly with hazelnut trees, orchards and horticultures.
The cultivated sides are truly important for the production of great grapes. The vineyards are historically according to two types of contour ploughing: crosswise (“girapoggio”) and roundabout (“cavalcapoggio”). The vineyards are located in Albugnano hills and the sides face south, south-east and south-west.
The grapes are cultivated with eco- friendly methods in order to respect the environment and to prevent the surface erosion of the hills.
After a careful and meticulous selection of the best grapes of Nebbiolo, Albugnano d.o.c. Superiore
“va’ ‘nait” was born. The aging process in durmast barrels for 18 months exalts an important wine,
capable of combining history, flavours, words and tastes.
We suggest pairing with main courses, such as stew, roast or hard cheese.

Albugnano is our story: we found documents attesting its cultivation and vinification in our farm since 1803. It is a grape that reflects the peculiarity of our hills and that gives us a great and elegant wine with character and longevity thanks to its ageing in durmast barrels.

Piemonte Albarossa is a vine variety created from the cross between nebbiolo and barbera in the ‘40s by professor Dalmasso, in order to gain a local grape with the best qualities of the two.
Albarossa is a great cultivar that is very productive and is able to give great results with the wine making process, but it’s really important to keep in mind requirements: dry, hilly and sunny terrains, calcareous soils rich in microelements. Despite these needs, it is possible to obtain a great and modern wine with a fresh taste and a soft tannic frame, typical of Piedmontese wines. It’s a very elegant and important wine and it still impresses after many years of production.

Barbera is the most typical red wine from Astigiano. This wine, although it’s linked with peasant traditions, has been able to innovate in order to meet different needs and tastes. Known for its vine strength and productivity, it’s easily recognisable thanks to its bunch density and its leaves, which turn red in autumn, brightening the surrounding hills. Soft, enveloping taste, endowed with a perfectly balanced acidity and an emphatic but not overwhelming tannin, persistent finish.
Tend to longevity.

“Nebbiolo” is described as “vitigno delle nebbie” (literally grape of the fog) because its harvest is the last one and it usually takes place in October, when there is already the fog and the grape is covered by a sort of coat, the bloom, which could be a reminder of the fog. Its grapes offer very framed wines that fit ageing, but that are really different in their characteristics depending on the region of provenance. It has always been the symbol of our farm as a deep expression of the territory.
On the palate is rich, soft with a very refined tannin. Tend to longevity.
We suggest pairing with first courses of the Piedmontese cuisine, main courses with red meat and
game and middle-aged cheese.

Piemonte Bonarda DOC, generally called Bonarda, is a grape already existing in our region in the late 18 th century, when it started to be appreciated thanks to its mineral sapidity, due to the soil, and its soft yet lively taste. For these features, Bonarda does not tend to longevity.
Bonarda wine made in Monferrato, is different from the one produced around Pavia and Piacenza (Bonarda dell’Oltrepo’): the first one is made with Bonarda grapes while the second one is made with Croatina grapes. It’s a lively wine with soft tannin, not fitted for longevity.

Since we love challenges and innovation, we chose a vine variety that is very traditional in Piemonte, such as Nebbiolo, and we decided to have an unusual vinification.

“An Costi” is our idea of Chardonnay. From the best vineyards we produce this wine, born from research and many experiments. It’s a grape characterized by an incredible variety of aromatic scents. The wine has great aromas which are enhanced by the fermentation and the ageing. Thanks to the long aging process, this wine can develop complex scents, preserving a great balance which is its main characteristic.

Grignolino is one of the ancient local vine varieties in Piemonte.
Actually, it is a very complicated grape, due to its unstable productivity and its difficulty adapting to different microclimates. Although this, Grignolino wine is appreciated for its acidity and the fine tannic frame, which let it be very versatile in terms of food pairings.

Genetic analysis confirmed the nobility of Freisa, pointing out its belonging to the same family as Nebbiolo. Specifically, it has been assumed a spontaneous crossing between Nebbiolo and another grape, which has disappeared or it’s still unknown. This important “relative” gives prestige to a vine variety that now is almost forgotten and underestimated for its rusticity, while once it was one of the most planted in Piemonte, even in rugged territory where ripeness was difficult, thanks to its disease resistance and productivity. It is a grape with excellent potentiality, from which it’s made a multifaceted wine: still, strong and enduring or a young one with a delicate yet lively note, not suited for a long aging.
